There were so many issues that were over-whelming: co-insurance penalties, business interruption schedules, lost inventory, proper amount of the building damage. We did not know where to even begin with the insurance company.
The help of your team was tremendous. You arranged for estimators to measure the damage. Heather Connell of your inventory team had a tremendous knowledge on how to count and price all the items that were destroyed. Your CPA, Chris Glenister, did an excellent job of advocating the best possible scenario to the insurance company's accountant. And, the recovery on building damage was such that we were able to get your fees paid and end up with a better structure.
Though I have owned several homes, I am not a contractor, and the many ins and outs of construction were somewhat mysterious to me. Since this was my first, and hopefully last fire, I am also unaware of the subtleties of negotiating with a reticent insurance company. These two elements would have made my claim to Safeco a walk in the park for them. It would have left me with tens of thousands of dollars less that I now have recovered, thanks to the diligent work of David Verbits, who was my advocate during this extremely complex process.

Insurance companies like to collect premiums but do not graciously pay the insured what is rightfully his. Their adjusters before being hired are evidently screened for their ability to be unfair and insensitive to the plight of the poor homeowner. Due to the expertise of their adjustment of a fire which occurred in our hotel, we were able to collect an amount which we believe appropriate and eminent from our insurance carrier.
